Therapy sessions carry both benefits and risks. Some long-term benefits common to therapy include reduced distress, deepened relationships, and resolved symptoms.
Inherent risks to therapy are exposure to uncomfortable feelings and unpleasant topics of discussion. Further, progress or “cures” are not guaranteed for any condition due to the many variables that influence therapy sessions and outcomes. |
What you discuss during your therapy session is kept confidential. No contents of the therapy sessions may be shared with another party without your written or verbal consent (or that of your legal guardian). The following is a list of exceptions or scenarios in which the therapist is ethically and legally obligated to contact the appropriate state agencies and/or relevant parties:
If there is reasonable evidence to suggest the client poses an imminent risk of harm to self or others and/or risk of child/dependent adult abuse (extending to prenatal exposure to controlled substances). Further, insurance companies and other third-party payers are given information that they request regarding services to the client. And parents or guardians of non-emancipated minor clients can be granted access to the client’s records with a court ordered subpoena. |
For cancellations made with less than 24 hours of notice and without a compelling rationale (e.g. medical emergency), you will be charged an $80 missed-session fee. This fee may be waived if the session is rescheduled within the same week.
